Developing for success and sustainability
Conserving the Environment

As a leading real estate developer, Mapletree seeks to achieve the highest environmental standards by incorporating eco-friendly features and infrastructure for its developments, both in Singapore and overseas.

Mapletree recognises the value that sustainable design brings to its projects, and is committed to environmentally sustainable practices. In addition to an improved indoor environment, cost savings are generated for Mapletree and its tenants. We are also mindful to design user-friendly buildings to ensure that our developments are inclusive of people from differing age groups and abilities.

For Singapore-based developments, Mapletree strives to achieve the Green Mark accreditation that is issued by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA). In May 2015, Mapletree was awarded the BCA Green Mark Champion Award as a sole recipient, this is in recognition of Mapletree’s strong commitment towards outstanding achievements in environmental sustainability. More than 10 buildings developed by Mapletree have been rated Green Mark Gold and above.

In addition, five of Mapletree’s projects also achieved the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) certification, an internationally well-regarded green building certification programme that recognises best-in-class building strategies and practices. They are Tata Communications Exchange and Mapletree Business City II (MBC II) in Singapore, MBC Shanghai and VivoCity Shanghai in China, and Global Technology Park in India.

Spotlight on Mapletree Business City II

At 30 storeys, MBC II is Singapore’s tallest business park building, offering commanding views of the sea and surrounding parks. Its highest tower (Block 80) terraces down to eight-, six- and five-storey blocks offering a dramatic architectural transition. Offering Grade A specifications and large, column-free floor plates, MBC II caters to companies looking for quality fringe-CBD business space. MBC II is set to raise the standards for sustainable business park design and its environmentally-friendly infrastructure has already received the Singapore Building & Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum and LEED Gold level awards.

Some of the key sustainability features include carbon reduction of 4,300 tonnes per year, or the equivalent of saving 434,100 trees and electricity savings of 8.6 million kWh per year, or the equivalent of about 1,873 four-room flats’ energy consumption annually, based on Singapore Energy Statistics 2015. MBC II also offers high water efficiency, harvesting more than 30,000 m³ of rain water and saving 31,080 m³ of fresh water annually by using water saving fittings.

Spotlight on MBC Shanghai & VivoCity Shanghai

The combined MBC Shanghai and VivoCity Shanghai development in China is conceived as a sustainable office and retail development. MBC Shanghai and VivoCity Shanghai have been awarded the LEED Gold and Silver level (precertification) respectively for their environmentally friendly design. Besides energy and water saving features, building materials for both developments were primarily sourced from recycled or regional sources. Other green features include a green roof and an automated car park guidance system. VivoCity Shanghai is expected to open by the end of 2016.
