Mapletree collaborates with Institutes of Higher Learning in tree planting efforts
21 Nov 2023

SINGAPORE, 21 November 2023 – Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) is pleased to work alongside two Institutes of Higher Learning (“IHLs”) as part of the Group’s ongoing sustainability efforts to plant 100,000 trees by 2030.

In the first tree-planting collaboration with IHLs, representatives from Mapletree, Nanyang Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic planted a total of 100 trees over two days. Eighty students and 30 staff from Temasek Polytechnic participated on 3 November, while 40 students and 12 staff from Nanyang Polytechnic joined on 17 November. The initiative was jointly organised by Mapletree and both polytechnics.

In attendance at the tree planting initiative on 3 November were Mr Premod Thomas, Chairman of Mapletree Global Student Accommodation Trust Investment Committee and Mr Aw Tuan Kee, Deputy Principal, Temasek Polytechnic. Mr Lee Chong Kwee, Chairman of Mapletree Logistics Trust Management Ltd. and Ms Esther Ho, Deputy Principal, Organisational Excellence, Nanyang Polytechnic, attended the event on 17 November.

Mr Edmund Cheng, Chairman, Mapletree, said, “As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are proud to work with like-minded partners such as Nanyang Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic, who share our vision for a greener future. This collaboration is a step closer to helping the environment. It also amplifies the benefits of trees to the students and develops a sense of environmental stewardship. As we sow the seeds today and drive significant change, we look forward to seeing our young leaders blaze the trail towards a better tomorrow.”

“The collaborative partnership between Temasek Polytechnic and Mapletree in this endeavour is strong affirmation of our dedication to environmental guardianship, with the aim of nurturing a sustainable future together,” said Mr Aw Tuan Kee, Deputy Principal, Temasek Polytechnic.

Mr Russell Chan, Principal and CEO, Nanyang Polytechnic, said, “Mapletree’s commitment to the environment echoes our own strong dedication to a greener future through innovative solutions, education and working with like-minded organisations and companies. In efforts like this tree-planting, as well as NYP’s recently launched Alliance for Sustainability Innovation, we are gladdened to be part of dynamic communities that are making substantive impact to change.”

Mapletree is on track to achieve its target to plant at least 100,000 trees by 2030 across its assets and the communities it operates in worldwide. By the end of Financial Year 2023/2024 next March, Mapletree would have planted 20,000 trees – doubling its initial target.

In addition, Mapletree intends to collaborate with more local IHLs to foster greater community unity in the coming months.

In April this year, the Group kicked off its inaugural Plant-a-Tree with Mapletree event in Singapore at Mapletree Industrial Trust’s newest property, Mapletree Hi-Tech Park @ Kallang Way. Together with over 120 Mapletree employees, Board Members from Mapletree and Mapletree Industrial Trust Management Ltd, and tenants, 80 trees were planted within the development. The second tree-planting initiative in Singapore took place later in August. Over 60 trees and shrubs were planted at Mapletree Business City alongside Mapletree employees and its tenants in Alexandra Precinct.
