Mapletree raises more than S$17,000, dedicates over 660 hours in inaugural month-long community initiative
11 Sep 2023

SINGAPORE, 11 September 2023 - Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) is pleased to have raised more than S$17,000 for Boys’ Town and Beyond Social Services and dedicated over 660 volunteer and participation hours as part of its month-long community initiative. The inaugural engagement programme – Mapletree Community Month – featured a series of activities organised by the Group to rally efforts and play a role in giving back to the community throughout August.

The initiative saw 360 Mapletree employees and more than 220 tenant staff from 30 tenant companies participating in meaningful community-giving activities at the Group’s flagship property Mapletree Business City in Alexandra Precinct. The events are aligned with Mapletree’s corporate social responsibility pillars of the arts, education, environment and health.

Said Mr Edmund Cheng, Chairman, Mapletree: “The launch of Mapletree Community Month underpins our commitment to enrich communities wherever we operate. While our employees have been participating in good causes all year round, this Community Month sharpens the focus. We identified more community needs, fortified meaningful partnerships and encouraged more employees to volunteer. As a Group, we look forward to championing good together.”

Key event highlights from Mapletree Community Month include a plastic waste recycling workshop to educate employees and tenants on giving a new life to plastic waste, a befriending session with seniors from NTUC Active Ageing Centre (Telok Blangah) over lunch and watching a performance under Mapletree Arts in the City (MAITC), a blood donation drive with Singapore Red Cross which saw 80 units of blood collected, a tree planting initiative that reinforced Mapletree’s sustainability goals with over 100 participants from Mapletree staff and tenants, and a signature futsal fundraiser. All proceeds go towards supporting youth charities Boys’ Town and Beyond Social Services, which have been Mapletree’s beneficiaries since 2016 and 2017 respectively.

“I enjoyed this outing very much, which was organised by Mapletree. The staff volunteers were very receptive, and I appreciated our conversation over lunch. The MAITC performances were also fantastic – the songs they played reminded us of the good old days!” shared 81-year-old Madam Chan Poh Chee from NTUC Health Active Ageing Centre (Telok Blangah).

The performers at MAITC were local artistes Music Heart Band, Harmonica Aficionados Society and Little Band Plus. They belted out classic hits and familiar favourites that resonated with the seniors, including Cantonese tunes《不再犹豫》(No more hesitation),《朋友》(Friends) and Hokkien ballads《家后》(Dearest kin), 《一百万》(One million dollars).

A new component was introduced in this year’s Mapletree Futsal Challenge. By donating a minimum stipulated sum to Boys’ Town or Beyond Social Services, individuals could put on their scoring boots and attempt to put a goal past special guest goalkeepers in Penalty Shootout 2023. They were: 21-year-old Hazel Lim and 22-year-old Hannah Lutfiah from JSSL Tampines Rovers, and 44-year-old Yazid Yasin, former national goalkeeper.

Participating organisations from the Group’s tenants pledged a minimum of S$500 per team to participate in the Mapletree Futsal Challenge, and total donations raised from Mapletree Futsal Challenge and Penalty Shootout 2023 racked up over S$17,000, including Mapletree’s dollar-for-dollar matching. Companies participating in Mapletree Futsal Challenge include beIN Asia Pacific, Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, Mapletree, Nike and Wego, as well as Mapletree’s beneficiaries YouthReach and Singapore Institute of Technology.

“The Mapletree Futsal Challenge is the event we most look forward to every year! Beyond the actual competition, we especially treasure the opportunity to bond with our teammates and colleagues. Football is the universal activity which brings everyone together. Thank you Mapletree for organising a well-run tournament that was played in the right spirit,” said Mr Huda Achmad, beIN SPORTS Team Captain. beIN Asia Pacific edged Singapore Institute of Technology in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw to emerge champion from this year’s Mapletree Futsal Challenge.

As a global real estate development, investment, capital and property management company operating in 13 markets, Mapletree strives to incorporate sustainable practices and generate positive community outcomes. To date, Mapletree has set aside S$39.2 million to fund CSR initiatives.

Twenty Mapletree employees befriended seniors from NTUC Health Active Ageing Centre (Telok Blangah) over a lunchtime concert on 16 August 2023.

A total of 62 trees and shrubs were planted during a tree planting initiative with Mapletree on 14 August 2023. Participating tenants include Google, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, Infocomm Media Development Authority, SAP Asia Pte Ltd, Samsung Asia Pte Ltd and BW Epic Kosan Maritime Pte Ltd.

]To highlight Mapletree’s focus on healthcare as one of its CSR pillars, the Group invited Singapore Red Cross to hold a lunchtime talk on 2 August 2023 and impart practical skills in managing workplace stress, while National University Hospital conducted a lunchtime talk on 17 August 2023 to debunk myths on plastic and reconstructive surgery. Mapletree staff and tenants also gained first-hand knowledge of treatment options for various skin conditions.
