The Reef at King\u2019s Dock is a sustainable, next-generation luxury development for discerning urbanites which encompasses the convenience of city-living, the tranquillity of nature and the luxury of true waterfront living. The development is also rich in history, being located alongside King\u2019s Dock, which was once the second largest dock in the world when it opened in 1913.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conceptualisation and design of The Reef at King\u2019s Dock is led by master planner and architect, Kees Christiaanse, a visionary industry veteran and founder of KCAP Architects & Planners. KCAP is an award-winning international design firm known for the development of sustainable urban living environments that enliven and renew cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Reef at King\u2019s Dock will feature an interplay of building sizes to give the estate a private and spacious atmosphere. While metallic hues will be predominant in the development for the added shimmer against the sun and water reflections, the three distinct building types namely, the Courtyard Blocks, Garden Villas, and Urban Villas, will each boast individualised characters and colour palettes. Singapore\u2019s first floating deck in a residential development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Reef at King\u2019s Dock will feature Singapore\u2019s first floating deck in a residential development, located within the waters of King\u2019s Dock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spanning 180 metres, the iconic floating deck will house an ensemble of swimming pools \u2013 an Olympic-length pool, a leisure pool and a rejuvenation pool. The pools will provide swimmers with an extraordinary immersive experience \u2013 as though they are swimming within the waters of King\u2019s Dock itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The floating deck will also give residents and visitors a unique perspective of King\u2019s Dock and enable them to better appreciate its historical role and significance. In addition, the floating deck will house The Reef at King\u2019s Dock\u2019s very own marine viewing area where residents and visitors will be able to view and better appreciate the marine ecology in King\u2019s Dock, thus further promoting environmental awareness and conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both Mapletree and Keppel are committed to upholding high standards of environmental stewardship and have worked with external experts to ensure the protection and preservation of the water quality and marine life in and around the waters of King\u2019s Dock. Bookings for The Reef at King\u2019s Dock are scheduled to start from 30 January 2021, when the project is launched. The development is expected to be completed by 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Environmental conservation in the design and development of the floating deck at The Reef at King\u2019s Dock<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incorporation of the floating deck in The Reef at King\u2019s Dock was carried out with the protection of King\u2019s Dock\u2019s existing structure and preservation of the marine ecosystem in and around its waters in mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The engineering design of the floating deck is led by Delta Marine Consultants, an international civil engineering consultant with a focus on coastal infrastructure and maritime engineering. Headquartered in the Netherlands with an office in Singapore, local projects under its belt include the Waterfront Promenade for Marina Bay Sands, and the floating pods and pavilion for Fullerton Bay Hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yang Zi Qian, Director, Delta Marine Consultants, said, \u201cWe are excited to collaborate with Mapletree and Keppel Land on the innovative floating deck that has given us the opportunity to bring this innovation from concept to reality. The floating deck will allow residents to get closer to the water and appreciate the marine life while providing spectacular aquatic and leisure experiences. In the design of the floating deck, we had taken into careful consideration the protection of King\u2019s Dock\u2019s existing structure, as well as the preservation of the marine life in its waters. For example, the main structure of the floating deck will be constructed offsite and then floated into King\u2019s Dock during installation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Environmental consulting firm and marine ecology specialist, DHI, has been engaged to design the submerged surface of the concrete floating deck to follow ecologically based design principles that will encourage the settlement of marine flora and fauna and enhance marine biodiversity at King\u2019s Dock. Keppel had previously carried this out successfully at Marina at Keppel Bay, where the floating concrete pontoons in the marina have since been colonised by a rich variety of marine life. DHI will also be engaged to cultivate corals at and transplant corals to The Reef at King\u2019s Dock, to further enrich the biodiversity of King\u2019s Dock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associate Professor Peter Todd from the Department of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore, and Specialist Advisor to The Reef at King\u2019s Dock, added, \u201cIn Singapore\u2019s heavily urbanised coastal environment, it is important to create opportunities for local marine species to establish themselves and thrive. The submerged surface of the floating deck has been specially designed to encourage colonisation by corals that, in turn, will attract fish and other marine life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Siti Maryam Yaakub, Head of Department, Ecological Habitats and Processes, DHI, said, \u201cThe Reef at King\u2019s Dock is a meaningful partnership for us as we get to play a pivotal role in the conservation and continued success of the marine life in Keppel Bay.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
