After an extensive redevelopment, the retail mall at the former World Trade Centre today soft opens with a new look and name. Renamed as HarbourFront Centre, the redevelopment of the mall and the renaming of the building are to bring it in line with the transformation of the entire Maritime Square area into a world-class, integrated waterfront business and leisure destination, called the HarbourFront development.
Today’s soft opening marks the successful completion of the first phase of the redevelopment comprising 90% of the retail space at HarbourFront Centre. The second phase, which involves the façade of the building, is expected to be completed and re-opened in the first quarter of 2004 when LTA completes their underpinning work for the Circle MRT Line in front of the building.
Comprising over 19,018 sq m, the newly redeveloped retail space at HarbourFront Centre will feature popular retail and F&B establishments like U2, Fifth Avenue, The Body Shop, Hush Puppies, Furniture Mall, Food Junction, Starbucks, McDonald’s, Cold Storage and more.
As an integrated office, retail and cruise development, the retail mix at the HarbourFront Centre is specially selected to cater to the needs of office tenants at the HarbourFront, cruise passengers and visitors to Sentosa and the region, as well as residents from nearby developments. With the targeted opening of the North-East MRT line in April, the Harbourfront Centre will further enjoy increased visitor traffic to the place.
To celebrate the opening of the centre, a host of special promotional events have been lined up. From 20 February 2003 to 2 March 2003, shoppers who visit HarbourFront Centre between 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm or 6.30pm and 7.30 pm will receive a surprise. Stilt-walkers will be handing out a different fruit each day to shoppers. Also starting from 20 February (while stocks last), shoppers who spend $20 or more on a single or combined receipt on the same day will be entitled to purchase an exclusive HarbourFront Centre Shopping Bag at an unbelievable price of $1.90. For more details on the promotional activities, please refer to Appendix A.
As an added convenience to shoppers, Mapletree will also be providing complimentary shuttle service at several locations to bring office workers and shoppers to HarbourFront Centre. With the exception of the Alexandra Corridor service, the other shuttle services will terminate upon the launch of the North-East MRT line. The details of these shuttle services are attached at Appendix 2.
The HarbourFront Centre is part of the 24-hectare HarbourFront development, which is currently being developed by Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd into a world class, integrated waterfront business and leisure destination. The HarbourFront Centre retail will offer a modern and exciting shopping experience for visitors. It will be a prelude to The HarbourFront, the mega waterfront retail and lifestyle hub. Billed as Singapore’s single largest retail mall at 1 million sq ft, The HarbourFront is targeted to be completed by 2006.
