Singapore Chinese Orchestra returns to VivoCity on 17 and 18 October 2025 for fourth year of collaboration with Mapletree

SINGAPORE – Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) is pleased to present its fourth annual concert with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (“SCO”) on 17 and 18 October 2025. Titled ‘SCO Goes to VivoCity’, the outdoor concert follows three successful years hosting over 2,300 audience members.

‘SCO Goes to VivoCity’ will showcase Chinese orchestral music to the community. Under the baton of Associate Conductor Moses Gay, over 40 musicians from SCO will present a thoughtfully curated programme. The repertoire includes the nostalgic Xinyao Medley, the  Impressions of Chinese Music and other crowd favourites that promise to resonate across generations.

The highlight of this year’s concert is Converging Resonances, a special piece commissioned by Mapletree to commemorate SG60 and the 60th anniversary of the Singapore Conference Hall. Composed by SCO’s Composer-in-Residence Wang Chenwei, this work underscores Mapletree’s dedication to supporting local talent and inspiring the community, while making a meaningful artistic contribution to the nation’s cultural heritage.

Mr Terence Ho, SCO Executive Director, shared: “This is the fourth year we are returning to VivoCity, and it’s an honour to once again bring Chinese orchestral music to such an enthusiastic crowd. This year, Mapletree’s generous support has not only made this outreach concert possible, but also enabled the commissioning of three new works by Singaporean composers between 2025 and 2026. These efforts reflect our shared belief in nurturing creativity and bringing orchestral music to more people in meaningful ways. We look forward to growing this collaboration in the years ahead.”

Mr Edmund Cheng, Mapletree Chairman, said: “Through our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, Mapletree seeks to enrich lives and build community spirit by actively supporting local arts programmes. In our fourth collaboration with SCO, we proudly affirm our commitment to supporting the arts by nurturing local talent with special commissioned pieces and giving back to the community with publicly accessible and affordable concerts.”

Tickets to the one-hour concert are available for purchase via Eventbrite.

About Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO)

Founded in 1997, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) is Singapore’s only full-time professional Chinese orchestra. Led by Principal Conductor Quek Ling Kiong since 2023, it is known for its excellence in traditional Chinese music and unique Singapore flavour.

The SCO makes its home at the Singapore Conference Hall, and has toured major cities in Asia and Europe, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Gwangju and Berlin. The orchestra made history when Butterfly Lovers, recorded with award-winning violinist Joshua Bell, broke into the Top 20 in Britain’s classical music charts in 2023.

As part of its mission to spread the love of Chinese music to the wider community, the SCO also conducts regular outreach programmes at schools, hospitals, and other venues.
