The TENG Ensemble returns to VivoCity Amphitheatre with a refreshed edition of Once Upon a Time 2026.

SINGAPORE – Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”), The TENG Ensemble (“TENG”) are pleased to present Once Upon a Time 2026, a refreshed edition of the Lunar New Year concert created especially for families and children. Happening on 31 January and 1 February 2026 at the VivoCity Amphitheatre from 10.30am to 11.30am, the production invites audiences on a musical and theatrical journey into the legendary tale of the Nian monster – an enduring story behind some of the most recognisable Lunar New Year customs. Tickets to the concert are available for purchase via SISTIC at S$5 to S$6 each, with a discounted rate for the “Family and Friends Bundle”. Tickets to the event are also eligible for purchase with SG Culture Pass credits.
Performed by The TENG Ensemble and featuring guest performances by Mapletree-TENG Scholars, the concert blends music, humour and cultural discovery to showcase the spirit of unity and celebration that defines the festive season. Directed by Dwayne Lau, Once Upon a Time 2026 follows the lively duo of Ah Gong and his adventurous granddaughter Sharon (played by Sugie Phua and Sharon Sum respectively) as they gather for reunion dinner and uncover the origins of Chinese New Year traditions, while uniting a village of musicians to face the mythical Nian using sound, rhythm and courage.
The TENG Ensemble will weave performances of their signature pieces along with solo performances by the Mapletree-TENG scholars during the concert. There will also be the premiere of two new Mapletree commissions, including an original arrangement of the hit pop song Golden from K-pop Demon Hunters to appeal to young audiences.
“Mapletree is delighted to present this concert, bringing families together to celebrate Lunar New Year and rediscover cherished traditions. Guided by our CSR Framework under the Arts pillar, we continue to support meaningful initiatives that strengthen community and cultural appreciation,” said Mr Edmund Cheng, Chairman, Mapletree.
“Once Upon a Time is TENG’s newly refreshed children’s concert for 2026 – a joyful reimagining of the Nian legend told through music. By pairing vibrant storytelling with Chinese instruments, we hope to ignite wonder, spark imagination and introduce children to the beauty of our cultural heritage in a fun and meaningful way,” said Dr Samuel Wong, Creative Director of The TENG Company.
Once Upon a… is part of an annual series of concerts started since 2018 that celebrates the Lunar New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival. Mapletree and TENG are proud to be back with yet another instalment of the performance to usher in the Lunar New Year.
