The initiative will see 600 trees planted at St Andrew’s Village, beginning with 300 trees at St Andrew’s Junior College, part of a plan to plant 600 trees across St Andrew’s Village by 2027.
SINGAPORE – Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) kicked off its largest tree planting initiative in Singapore to date with the planting of 300 trees at St Andrew’s Junior College on 22 May 2026, marking the start of a 600-tree planting programme funded by the Group across St Andrew’s Village by early 2027.The launch at St Andrew’s Junior College was joined by close to 230 Mapletree representatives, staff and students from St Andrew’s Junior College and project partner, Target15 SG.
Rolled out in three phases, the initiative began with the planting of 300 trees at St Andrew’s Junior College on 22 May 2026, followed by 150 trees at St Andrew’s Secondary School by end-2026, and concluding with 150 trees along the Kallang River at St Andrew’s Junior College in early 2027.
With the addition of these 600 trees in St Andrew’s Village, staff and students will experience tangible benefits such as heat mitigation, noise reduction and improved air quality, as school facilities are located near the Central Expressway (CTE). The trees will act as natural buffers, creating a cooler, more conducive learning environment for the students, with the potential to transform the area into a biodiversity corridor.
As part of the Plant-a-Tree with Mapletree initiative, the Group’s contribution of 600 trees will enhance biodiversity and support sustainability efforts in the precinct. This initiative underscores Mapletree’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, with more than 62,000 trees planted to date, surpassing the halfway mark towards its target of 100,000 trees by 2030.
Mr Edmund Cheng, Chairman, Mapletree, said: “We are pleased to advance our commitment to sustainability through this meaningful collaboration with St Andrew’s Junior College, our largest tree planting initiative in Singapore to date. With the school’s support, this joint initiative will create a greener, more conducive learning environment while strengthening ecological resilience in the precinct and reinforcing Mapletree’s commitment to environmental stewardship in the community.”
Beyond this initiative, Mapletree’s broader sustainability strategy places a strong focus on climate mitigation and adaptation, implementing engineering solutions, transitioning to renewable energy use and stakeholder engagement.
Mr Tham Kine Thong, Principal, St Andrew’s Junior College said, ““At St Andrew’s Junior College, we believe education is most meaningful when students engage in authentic experiences that shape both character and conviction. Seeing our students plant trees with their own hands makes ideas like sustainability, stewardship, and responsibility deeply personal. Through this partnership with Mapletree, our students learnt that their actions can make a lasting difference. We are grateful to be part of an initiative that will stand as a living celebration of 165 years of the St Andrew’s family of schools, growing alongside generations of Saints to come.”
Mapletree remains committed to strengthening its partnerships with institutions and community stakeholders through tree planting initiatives, reinforcing its efforts to building a more sustainable and liveable urban environment.
