38 artists recognised in second urban sketching exhibition presented by Mapletree at Alexandra Retail Centre

SINGAPORE – Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) proudly presented its second urban sketching exhibition – Art & Artists Among Us: Across Generations – at Alexandra Retail Centre (“ARC”) in collaboration with local art community Urban Sketchers Singapore (“USkSG”).

A total of 40 sketches were displayed between 17 November and 25 November 2025, selected from an urban sketchers sketchwalk conducted by USkSG at St James Power Station during Mapletree Community Month 2025. The exhibition also included a special feature wall showcasing art pieces drawn by young talents who attended the inaugural Mapletree Kids Urban Sketching Camp.

At the inaugural Mapletree Kids Urban Sketching Camp held in celebration of SG60, students between the ages of seven and 12 sketched Mapletree Business City (“MBC”) and art installation Rain Tree by Kim Jongku. It is one of the 15 artworks and artefacts displayed at MBC’s Public Art Trail. The urban sketching camp was designed to nurture creativity in young minds. Under the guidance of experienced sketchers Hanna Esa, co-founder of URBANSketch+, and Loo Fang Kai, designer and illustrator, young participants learnt the fundamentals of urban sketching including identifying shapes in the environment, composing scenes, adding elements of interest and applying colour.

This year’s Mapletree Community Month brought together over 90 urban sketchers to illustrate the historic charm of St James Power Station, a property owned by Mapletree which received the 2022 Award for Conservation & Innovation as part of the URA Architectural Heritage Award. Each artist’s distinctive style offers a fresh perspective through the artist’s chosen medium and their personal perspective of SJPS’s unique history and architecture.

The sketchwalk and exhibition mark the second year of collaboration between Mapletree and USkSG, emphasising a shared commitment to the arts that is fuelled by the community’s passion for creativity and connection.

Last year, Mapletree Community Month 2024 saw over 80 sketchers from USkSG visiting MBC to sketch its architectural beauty and iconic artworks and artefacts. Twenty-two of the sketches were later exhibited at ARC from 11 November to 24 November 2024 as an extension of the event.

Mr Edmund Cheng, Chairman, Mapletree said, “Recognising the arts as one of the four pillars of Mapletree’s Corporate Social Responsibility Framework, we are committed to enriching our communities through these initiatives. This urban sketching exhibition serves as a great platform to encourage both experienced and emerging artists to express their unique perspectives through art.”

A presentation ceremony was held at ARC on 20 November 2025 to recognise the masterpieces drawn by the sketchers. Mr Alvin Tay, Mapletree CSR Board Committee Member and Lead Independent Non-Executive Director, MPACT Management Ltd presented VivoCity eVouchers as tokens of appreciation to the participating sketchers.

USkSG is part of a global community of sketchers from all walks of life who enjoy sketching scenes of where they live and travel. Urban sketching is an immersive experience that invites individuals to gain an appreciation for the nuances of an environment and capture the essence of a place through on-location drawings.
