Singapore Chinese Orchestra returns to VivoCity in September to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival 2026

SINGAPORE – Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) as it returns to VivoCity for two outdoor concerts on 11 and 12 September 2026 for the fifth consecutive year of collaboration with Mapletree Investments (Mapletree). The concerts continue SCO’s mission of bringing Chinese orchestral music into the heart of the community.

Led by Principal Conductor Quek Ling Kiong and Associate Conductor Moses Gay, the programme opens with First Generation, a work by Singaporean composer Koh Cheng Jin, commissioned through Mapletree’s support for local composers. Inspired by Singapore sculptor Chong Fah Cheong’s iconic sculpture that shares its title with the composition, the work captures the carefree spirit of childhood along the Singapore River while honouring the nation’s early pioneers. This is the second of three Mapletree commissioned pieces which reflects Mapletree and SCO’s shared commitment to supporting local artistic creation and developing new Singaporean works that celebrate the nation’s heritage.

Mr Edmund Cheng, Chairman, Mapletree, said, “Mapletree is pleased to partner SCO for the fifth consecutive year at VivoCity, bringing the joy of music to the community. Aligned with the Arts pillar of Mapletree’s Corporate Social Responsibility Framework, our support for new local compositions and accessible arts programmes aims to foster a deeper appreciation of Singapore’s heritage and cultural identity.”

“We are grateful to Mapletree for its continued partnership and belief in the value of good Chinese orchestral music,” said Terence Ho, Executive Director of SCO.” The commissioning of First Generation demonstrates how corporate support can help create new Singaporean works that celebrate our shared heritage while enriching the country’s cultural landscape for future generations.”

Audiences can also look forward to beloved favourites such as The Moon Represents My Heart and Full Moon Blossoms, alongside vibrant works including Good Morning, Sir, Axi Moon Dance and Journey to Lhasa, showcasing the rich colours and expressive versatility of the Chinese orchestra.

A special highlight of the evening is Czardas, performed by SCO percussion musician Derek Koh on the xylophone. His dazzling virtuosity brings the passion and excitement of famous Hungarian classics to life.

Family and friends are welcome to enjoy two evenings of live music under the stars as SCO celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival with a vibrant programme of timeless classics at VivoCity. Complimentary lanterns will be given out to all audience members.

About Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO)

Founded in 1997, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) is Singapore’s only full-time professional Chinese orchestra. Led by Principal Conductor Quek Ling Kiong since 2023, it is known for its excellence in traditional Chinese music and unique Singapore flavour.

The SCO makes its home at the Singapore Conference Hall, and has toured major cities in Asia and Europe, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Gwangju and Berlin. The orchestra made history when Butterfly Lovers, recorded with award-winning violinist Joshua Bell, broke into the Top 20 in Britain’s classical music charts in 2023.

As part of its mission to spread the love of Chinese music to the wider community, the SCO also conducts regular outreach programmes at schools, hospitals, and other venues.
